Patriots at Pebble Raises Over $3 Million for Marine Scholars

Honor, Courage, and Commitment – core values of the Marine Corps, and words that come to life each February on the fairways at Pebble Beach. Started in 2011 to assist Marine families all over the country, this year’s Patriots at Pebble golf tournament raised over $3 million to help educate the children of Marines and Navy Corpsmen.

The Golf Channel joined the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation this year to take a closer look at how the tournament brings Marines and supporters from all backgrounds together to make sure no Marine family in-need is left behind. See the tournament in action and hear the inspiring stories of our Marine Scholars and their families. To learn more about the scholarship recipients and their Marine parents who joined us for this special tournament keep reading…

Andrew and his father, active duty Master Sergeant Justin Barnes USMC, joined us on the course this year. A sophomore at San Diego Miramar College, Andrew shares the many challenges of growing up with an active duty Marine father and how the Scholarship Foundation is making it possible for him to pursue his dreams of becoming a pilot in the Marine Corps.

For veteran Sergeant Vicente Hinojosa USMC, golf is more than just a hobby – after a mid-air helicopter collision, it’s a form of physical therapy and a bond he cherishes with his daughter. Tune-in to hear Sgt Hinojosa tell his inspiring story and share his hopes and dreams for his daughter, Karina.

Staff Sergeant John Jones USMC (Ret.) was severely injured in Iraq in 2004 when his humvee ran over a double-stacked anti-tank mine. For SSgt Jones, it was important to know that his Marine Corps family never left his side. SSgt Jones and his daughter Jade, a junior at the Culinary Institute of America, joined us and shared what our support has meant to them.

Alongside our Marines and scholarship recipients, over 40 teams competed this year for victory at the Toyota Commandant’s Cup and the OthersFirst Corpsman Classic.
