TBS 3-67 Scholarship Exceeds Goal of a Half Million Dollars to the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation

Five years ago, in celebration of their 50th anniversary, Officer Candidate Class 41 and Basic Class 3-67 established a scholarship initiative to honor the memory of forty-seven of their classmates who were killed in action during the Vietnam War.

The program, managed in conjunction with the Scholarship Foundation, was designed to provide post-secondary and career technical scholarships to the children of Marines, specifically the children of SNCO’s.

To date, the class has exceeded $500,000 in contributions. Dozens of children of Marine SNCO’s have received $5,000 annual scholarship awards and several more scholarships will be awarded over the next academic year. Scholarship Foundation President and CEO Lieutenant Colonel Ted Probert USMC (Ret.) joined TBS 3-67 Class President Fred “Flash” Lash and TBS 3-67 scholarship chair Jim McGinty to recognize this important fundraising milestone.

Jim McGinty remarked on the fundraising success. “We are a bunch of Old Corps Marines remembering and honoring our fallen by supporting a new generation of SNCO’s. We were initially trained by NCO’s and SNCO’s, they helped us run our platoons, fought with us, bled with us, and made us better Marines. We can think of no better way to remember and honor our fallen.”

The efforts of the TBS 3-67 class have inspired other classes to establish similar initiatives through the Scholarship Foundation. Their initiative, along with those of other TBS classes, will continue to make a meaningful impact on the lives of the children of their fellow Marines and Navy Corpsmen.

This Giving Tuesday, we need to fund 24 Marine Scholarships in 24 hours.

We are faced with an unprecedented challenge: more Marine children than ever before are seeking scholarship support. With your Giving Tuesday gift before midnight on 12/3, you can honor Marines with a donation that helps educate their children.
