Thank You For Honoring My Father

Friends of the Scholarship Foundation,

I wanted to thank you for making a difference in the lives of Marine families. Because of the support of this whole community, I was awarded a life-changing scholarship from the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation, empowering me to follow my dreams and honor my father’s legacy through higher education.

My father served as a Marine and later worked as a Michigan State Trooper for 17 years. I was raised on the very standards and morals he was taught throughout the Marine Corps. I didn’t know it at the time, but this would be one of the best blessings of my life. My father taught me how to be the man I am today.

When he was diagnosed with PTSD, it changed my family’s life forever – while I will never be able to comprehend the extent of his pain, I will always look up to him for his strength and perseverance. His sacrifices have morphed me into a better, stronger person.

Thanks to this scholarship, I’ve been able to explore my true passions at the University of Michigan, where I’m majoring in Computer Science Engineering. I hope to use my skills to serve others just as the many men and women in the Marine Corps have done before me. After college, I plan to work in space exploration with the hopes of sending the first humans to Mars.

None of this would be possible without the support of this phenomenal community. Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for helping me actualize my dreams.

Sincerely,

Jake Lane
