Important Year-End Update for Investors Who Give by Mail

As we approach the end of the year, we want to share an important update for those who plan to support the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation with a gift by mail.

The U.S. Postal Service now postmarks mail when it reaches a regional processing facility, rather than when it is dropped off locally. This means mail may receive a postmark that is later than the day it was sent.

Because IRS regulations require us to honor the postmarked date when issuing tax receipts, we kindly encourage donors who plan to give by mail to send their gifts earlier than usual. This will help ensure gifts are postmarked by December 31 and qualify for 2025 tax purposes. Giving online is also a secure option and can be completed any time.

If you prefer to mail your gift closer to year-end, USPS offers several ways to ensure your mailing receives an official acceptance date:

  • Request a manual postmark at a retail counter
  • Use Certified Mail or a Certificate of Mailing
  • Purchase postage at the counter and retain the PVI label

If you have already given or are in the process of making a gift, thank you. Your generosity makes an immediate and lasting impact on the lives of Marine children, and we want to ensure your year-end giving experience is seamless.

If you have any questions, our team is available to help at (703) 549-0060.

Thank you for your continued support of Marine families.

With gratitude,
Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation
