Photo Guidelines

Let’s put a face to the name! As part of the application, you’re required to provide a photo of yourself. Your photo is an important visual that may be used for publications including our website, newsletters, donor communications and/or event materials. Use a photo that puts your best foot forward, and that is the highest resolution possible.

Photo Requirements and Examples:


Acceptable:

  • High resolution
  • Clear, full-face view (no hats or sunglasses)
  • Color photo (no black & white)
  • Must be suitable for publications including our website, newsletters, donor communications, and/or event materials

Unacceptable:

  • No selfies
  • No cropped photos
  • No pictures of pictures
  • No distracting elements in background

Background

  • No distracting elements (e.g. pets, bathroom, etc.)
  • No messy backgrounds 

Resolution and Quality

  • Photo is sharp without any visible pixels (at least 500KB)
  • Do not scan a photo or take a photo of a printed photo
  • Ensure balanced lighting and no shadows

Glasses, hats and hair

  • No hats (except grad caps or religious headwear)
  • No sunglasses (eyeglasses are ok)
  • Ensure hair is not covering face

Selfies

  • Must be a photo taken by someone else (or a timer photo)
  • No mirror selfies
  • No car selfies

Photo of Photo

  • No photo of a photo
  • No watermarks
  • Must be an original photo or scanned photo.

80 Years, 80 Miles in His Honor

Eighty years ago, on June 26, 1944, Sergeant Richard Herman Young, “B” Company, 1st Battalion, 23rd Marines, 4th Marine Division, was killed in action in Saipan during World War II. Now his son, Hal, who is 90 years old, is walking 80 miles in his father's honor.
