Jasmine’s father served for more than twenty years in the Marines, and his service created a strong bond between father and daughter. Jasmine was able to go to work with him when he served as a recruiter, where he inspired her as a strong leader. Master Sergeant Alexander taught her determination, focus and enthusiasm—all characteristics that help Jasmine on her educational journey.
Giving back to the community runs in Jasmine’s family; her grandmother is an Emergency Room Registered Nurse. Jasmine says that they share a love of science and making a difference. Her grandmother’s passion for the medical field inspired her in interest pursuing that same field of study. Now, Jasmine is studying Biological Science at California State University Sacramento.
Driven and dedicated to her studies, Jasmine is on track to graduate with her undergraduate degree a year early. After she graduates, Jasmine hopes to continue her studies at medical school and become a doctor. Following in the footsteps of her father and grandmother, Jasmine’s dream is to “make a difference in my country and community and inspire other young women to reach for the stars through education and hard work.” When she completes her educational journey, Jasmine wants to serve as a medical officer in the Navy.
Outside of her excellent academics, Jasmine participates in many on campus activities that build community and help others. She’s a member of the Black Student Union, Christian Club and Jazz Dance Club—three campus communities she feels passionately about being involved in. She also volunteers tutoring other students in math and with “The Pop-up Tent”, which provides groceries to students who need them. Jasmine describes it best when she says, “Community service and volunteering my time is one of the most enjoyable things I can do to brighten someone’s day and give back.”
Jasmine embodies the Marine values of Honor, Courage and Commitment in everything she does. Because of her scholarship, Jasmine can take more classes and pursue graduating early, along with volunteering in her community.
