For the fifth year in a row, the Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation has celebrated our scholarship recipients with events around the country with many of our students in attendance representing the 2,200 students awarded in 2014-15. We kicked off the 2014 Scholarship Announcement Ceremonies at the Ronald Reagan Building in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday, July 15, where we were honored to have General James F. Amos, Commandant of the Marine Corps, address our Marine Corps families. Local news anchor Leon Harris of WJLA- TV presided as master of ceremonies and Under Secretary Ted Mitchell represented the Department of Education as we paid tribute to the dedicated students and their families.
On Friday, July 18, we welcomed our Marine Corps families and students to Morston Pavilion onboard Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. Scholarship recipient mom and active duty Marine Reservist, SgtMaj Yolanda Mayo was our emcee for the second year in a row. Brigadier General John K. Love, Deputy Commanding General, II MEF, greeted assembled students and their families as our military guest of honor with Mr. Eric Steimel, principal of Lejeune High School.
