James P. McGinty (VA)

Jim McGinty was named Vice Chairman of CIG in November 2006, after serving as President of CIG, since February of 2000.  CIG is a Bethesda, MD based information services company focused on the global Higher Education community with more than 5,000 university customers in over 40 countries.  Jim was the President of Cambridge Scientific Abstract, a publishing division of CIG, from 1992 to 2000.

Prior to joining CSA, Jim spent over 20 years with the Dun & Bradstreet Corporation.  His last assignment was Managing Director D&B North Pacific based in Hong Kong.  His prior assignments included: VP Group Government Services with product development and R&D responsibility for the Federal sector; VP of Market Management; VP Product Management; and numerous sales management positions.

Jim has been an active member of the Software & Information Industry Association (SIAA) and served on its board of directors.  He also served on the board of NFAIS and is currently a board member of ProQuest.

Born, bred and educated in Brooklyn, Jim holds a B.A. and M.B.A. from St. John’s University in New York, and received an Honorary Doctorate from his alma mater in 1984.  After graduating from St. John’s in ’66, Jim was commissioned as a Marine officer and served in Vietnam with the 1st Marines.  He spent 21 years in the Marine Corps Reserve, retiring as a colonel.  He has been active with the Scholarship Foundation in New York and DC.  Jim and his wife Pat reside in Vienna, VA and have three grown children, Clete, Kyle, and Devin.
